Live theater, musical performances, and a very cool Texas-centric film festival are all heading your way this weekend, and DART takes you straight to the fun. Read on to find out more.

Friday, Sept. 12

MacMurder! is the world premiere of an original comedy-murder mystery that captures the look of a 1930s or 1940s-era Hollywood movie. A bumbling private detective, his assistant, and a police officer encounter eccentric characters as they seek answers to that classic question: Who done it? Find out through Sept. 21 at the Wyly Theatre. You can walk there from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines, or from the M-Line Trolley.

Opera Box follows a poor southern family, suffering from addiction and the collapse of their American Dream, journeying through a liminal place to try to understand their lives. The play is written in verse, and features live music, shadow play techniques, projections and puppetry. Catch the wickedly funny production through Sept. 20 at Ochre House Theater. That’s about half a block from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.

Double Cut is about a diamond heiress who is reunited with her long-lost (she thought dead) brother, only to gradually suspect that she’s being duped. Meanwhile, millions’ worth of diamonds has vanished. See it through Sept. 27 at Cox Playhouse. That’s right across Haggard Park from Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line.

Gavin Adcock comes to Irving as part of his Need To Tour, supporting his 2024 album, Actin' Up Again. Catch the country artist at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, walkable from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station.

Friday, Sept. 12-Saturday, Sept. 13

CityLine Live lets you enjoy live music under the stars every Friday and Saturday at CityLine Plaza. Bring a picnic blanket or grab a patio seat at one of CityLine’s many restaurants to enjoy performances from local artists. On Friday, rock out to Griffin Holtby, and also peruse local vendors at the CityLine Night Market. Saturday, enjoy the local stylings of Jason Hatch. The plaza is a very short walk from CityLine/Bush Station on the Red Line.

Friday, Sept. 12-Sunday, Sept. 14

It Came from Texas Film Festival is the third annual celebration of films made right here in the Lone Star State. This year’s theme: True Texas Tales. Selections include opening night film Bonnie & Clyde; Richard Linklater's Bernie; JFK: and a double feature of The Great Debaters starring Denzel Washington and the documentary The Real Great Debaters. Closing day features two very different takes on the battle at the Alamo: John Wayne's The Alamo and Viva Max! See these and more at the Plaza Theatre in Garland, a short walk from the Blue Line’s Downtown Garland Station.
