In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, DART invites you to explore cultural experiences around North Texas that celebrates the heritage of our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. Here are a few DARTable events and exhibits to check out!
Plano AsiaFest 2022 returns for its 18th year at Haggard Park in the Downtown Plano Arts District. This event will feature the rich cultures of Asia with numerous cultural demonstrations, performances, food, and more! Vendors will provide a fun and engaging experiences perfect for the whole family. This free event will be on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., next to Downtown Plano Station on the Red Line. There will also be an Art Expo that will run throughout the month of May at the Courtyard Theater lobby.
Fusion, the newest special event hosted by the City of Irving, celebrates Irving's many cultures with music, dance and food. Take in various eclectic live performances, enjoy a tasty treat from an array of food vendors, grab a beautiful henna tattoo or dance to the music on the Heritage Park stage. Fusion is Saturday, May 7 from noon to 6 p.m. at Heritage Park, a short walk from Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).
Crow Museum of Asian Art presents two great exhibits during AAPI Heritage Month. JooYoung Choi: Songs of Resilience from the Tapestry of Faith is a multimedia exhibit that highlights some key characters and narratives of the artist’s “Cosmic Womb.” Rare Earth: The Art and Science of Chinese Stones explores the different ways that Chinese and Western cultures have celebrated the beauty found in, and created from, natural stones. The Crow Museum is located in the Dallas Arts District, a short walk away from St. Paul Station on all four DART Rail lines.
KRIO x ASIANGRUB AAPI Heritage Month Block Party is bringing epic flavors, music, and culture to the Bishop Arts District! This event will feature over 15 curated, local food vendors on top of a lot of family friendly activities and performances. This event is free, but RSVPs are recommended for capacity control. Catch the party on Saturday, May 14 at Krio restaurant, located next to Bishop Arts Station on the Dallas Streetcar line. You can also take Bus Route 226 Clarendon from 8th & Corinth Station.
The AT&T Discovery District is hosting AAPI Celebrations on May 15 at 11 a.m. This celebration will feature performances of Chinese opera and dance, hula, Thai dance, and Philippine Bamboo Dance, which will highlight the significant culture contributions from the AAPI community. The AT&T Discovery District is a short walk down Akard Street from Akard Station on all four light rail lines.
Festival of Joy 2022 returns for its third year at Klyde Warren Park on May 21. Experience India’s vast cultural and spiritual heritage and enjoy live music, dance performances, delicious vegetarian food, and more! The Festival of Joy Parade kicks off the event at 11:30 a.m. Join the joy! Klyde Warren Park is a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station on all for DART Rail lines or get to the park on the M-Line Trolley connecting Cityplace/Uptown Station and St. Paul Station.
