Corny dogs, Big Tex and of course, football! All the iconic elements of the State Fair of Texas® are back.
Opening weekend kicks off with the annual State Fair Classic between Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M University. Here is your ultimate game day survival guide when riding DART to make sure you don’t miss a second of the action.
Saturdays = Game Days
Game days typically attract some of the largest State Fair crowds, so DART encourages you to allow extra travel time. Plan ahead by checking BigTex.com for game times and DART.org/StateFair for rail schedules.
Sept. 25 – State Fair Classic:
The Prairie View A&M Panthers go head-to-head with the Grambling State Tigers in this historic rivalry.
Kickoff: 4 p.m.
Oct. 9 – AT&T Red River Showdown:
State bragging rights get decided on the field in the definitive grudge match over which side of the Red River is better – Texas Longhorns or Oklahoma Sooners.
Kickoff: TBD – Visit BigTex.com for game day
Two-in-One
Your game ticket includes admission to the fairgrounds on game day.
Go Green
Green Line that is! If your game plan includes riding DART, take the Green Line to either Fair Park Station, which drops you off right at the Main Gate of the fair, or the MLK, Jr. Station, which puts you a couple of blocks from Gate 6 near the Cotton Bowl.
Park and Ride
Rivalry is great for the field, not so much for the roadways. Avoid gridlock and park for free at any one of DART’s Park & Ride stations. Learn more at DART.org/parking
Know Your Fare
The College/Trade School reduced pass is only for students registered at schools in the DART Service Area. None of the universities represented in the two Cotton Bowl games qualify for this fare. A Local Day Pass is $6, and an AM/PM Pass (good either before or after noon, respectively) is only $3. Know your options by visiting DART.org/fares
Go Contactless
Why fuss with the ticket vending machine when contactless fare payment options are available? Use the GoPass® app, GoPass Tap® card, or the new Contactless Payment option of using your contactless credit or debit card or payment-enabled mobile device. These are the safest and best ways to purchase a pass so that you can avoid contact with surfaces that others may have touched.
Download the latest version of GoPass in the Apple App Store or Google Play. Purchase GoPass Tap cards at 7-Eleven stores or other participating retailers. Visit GoPass.org to learn more.
Play it Safe
Face masks are still required on all DART vehicles. If you forget yours, you’ll find free mask dispensers onboard. DART also provides hand sanitizer on all buses and trains. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently to help prevent the spread of germs. And stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19.
We’ve Got You Covered
Your safety and protection are top priorities at DART, which is why we will continue to follow the cleaning and disinfecting recommendations of local, state, and national health authorities, including the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In addition to thorough nightly cleanings, DART buses and trains are also cleaned on a rotating basis throughout the day, focusing on high-touch surfaces such as handrails, door buttons, and grab rails.
