streetcar-exterior The Dallas City Council's Transportation and Trinity River Project Committee voted Monday to approve the exterior colors and interior design elements for the new dual-mode streetcar vehicles being produced by Brookville Equipment Corporation. According to a presentation by Dallas' streetcar program manager Keith Manoy, the vehicles will be outfitted with the same seat fabric as DART light rail vehicles and the vehicle's exterior will use DART's yellow and blue colors. These decisions were made in consideration of future maintenance costs. Manoy did note that the vehicles will have unique branding to distinguish themselves from DART's existing fleet of light rail vehicles.
After the threat of severe weather put a hold on original plans, construction crews will attempt to connect the streetcar line to DART's existing light rail line Sunday, May 4. The connection, which will occur between Union and Convention Center stations, will cause a small disruption in rail service on Sunday.
Beginning at 4 a.m., trains will operate south from Parker Road and Downtown Rowlett stations to West End Station and from Westmoreland and Ledbetter stations north to 8th & Corinth Station only. Shuttle buses will transport passengers between West End and 8th & Corinth stations, also serving Cedars, Convention Center and Union stations. Normal rail service should resume by 6 p.m.
The connection will allow the streetcars to travel to DART's central rail facility for maintenance and storage. photo 1 (1)
