Happy Thanksgiving! A feast of seasonal performances opens this weekend, with most of them running well into December. There are also a pair of Turkey Trots taking place Thanksgiving morning. DART takes you to all these seasonal events.

Thursday, Nov. 24 

The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is a tradition more than 50 years in the making – and one o/. Every year on Thanksgiving morning, the popular event kicks off at 9 p.m. in front of Dallas City Hall. The fun, family-friendly holiday tradition includes both certified 5K and 8-mile races in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. (If you choose to walk some or most of the course, no worries; you’ll have plenty of company.) Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. at Dallas City Hall Plaza, and the main races start at 9 a.m. There’s also a virtual option; check the website for details. City Hall is about a 10-minute walk from Union Station on the Red and Blue lines (the Trinity Railway Express does not operate on Thanksgiving Day). The starting point is about the same distance from Akard Station on all four DART Rail lines. The races end at the same place they start.

Irving Turkey Trot pursues the Thanksgiving tradition in the Las Colinas area. The start and end point is the Texas Lottery Plaza, near the Toyota Music Factory. Check the website for details; you can sign up here. The event is walkable from the Orange Line’s Irving Convention Center Station. You can also take Bus Route 227.

The Nutcracker features the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performing selections from Tchaikovsky’s famous score. The overtures, marches and other, often exotic, pieces are the perfect seasonal showcase of the DSO. See it at the Meyerson Symphony Center, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Friday, Nov. 25

Christmas in the Branch kicks off with their Skating Under the Stars event! Enjoy Skating Under the STARS at our outdoor ice-skating rink located outside the StarCenter in Farmers Branch. Skating Under the Stars runs until January. The rink is a short walk from Farmers Branch Station on the Green Line.

Enchant creates an illuminated winter wonderland with more than 4 million sparkling lights forming a walk-through maze. You’ll also enjoy a 100-foot-tall holiday tree, an ice-skating trail, live entertainment, Santa visits, and a marketplace with crafts, gifts, food and cocktails. You can experience it through New Year’s Day at Fair Park by taking the Green Line to Fair Park Station.

Ebenezer Scrooge is Pocket Sandwich Theatre’s take on the age-old holiday favorite. The tale of redemption and forgiveness captures the holiday spirit for the whole family. The theater’s new location is right on the square in Historic Downtown Carrollton. You can see the production through Dec. 23, a short walk from the Green Line’s Downtown Carrollton Station.

A Christmas Carol is the Dallas Theater Center’s signature annual event. You probably know the story: Three spirits visit miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, and they journey through Christmases past, present, and future. Can they save Scrooge’s soul? Rediscover the holiday classic at the Wyly Theatre through Dec. 24. You can walk to the theater from Pearl/Arts District Station on all three DART Rail lines.

The Nutcracker features amazing choreography, beautiful sets, plus plenty of enchantment and (of course) sweets. Visit Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the rest in Texas Ballet Theater’s production through Dec. 4 at the Winspear Opera House. The venue is a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Saturday, Nov. 26

Crystal City 1969 is based on the true story of Mexican American students in South Texas who walked out of their school and into civil rights history. See democracy in action at the Latino Cultural Center, just a couple of blocks from Deep Ellum Station on the Green Line. Saturday night, there is a 6:30 p.m. opening night reception; the production runs through Dec. 18.

Sunday, Nov. 27

For King & Country brings their A Drummer Boy Christmas tour to Dallas. Catch the Christian pop duo at the American Airlines Center, served by the Green Line’s Victory Station. You can also take the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).
