Happy Fourth of July weekend! For a roundup of Independence Day celebrations, check out our post here. Elsewhere in North Texas, there are markets, exhibits and performances. Read on for DARTable ways to spend your three-day weekend.

Friday, July 1

Viernesito is a monthly night market at Four Corners Brewing Co. in the Cedars neighborhood south of Downtown Dallas. There are local vendors, a live DJ, food pop-ups – and, of course, all the delicious lagers and ales that Four Corners is known for. You’ll find the market a short walk from Cedars Station on the Red and Blue lines.

Fleet Foxes comes to Dallas in support of their latest album, Shore. The Seattle-based indie folk band has made quite a splash in its 14-year career; the critic’s darlings have made numerous best-of lists. Catch the band at the Factory at Deep Ellum, a short walk from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station

The Boho Market at the Hill is bursting with one-of-a-kind finds from small businesses and local artisans. Don’t miss out on the shopping at The Hill Shopping Center, near the Red Line’s Walnut Hill Station.

In Spite of History - Photo Courtesy of FacebookIn Spite of History is an immersive experience that chronicles the years of segregation and racism related to Fair Park. Artstillery, a local arts-based nonprofit, spent six months interviewing neighborhood residents, and has given them a platform to tell their stories. Those stories take you from the 1960s to today, and recount a history of joy, heartbreak and humanity. These accounts unfold as a kind of interactive play: Main character Izzy wants to go to the fair, her grandpa Julius questions the destruction of the Hall of Negro Life at Fair Park, and the family has an important conversation about their own place in history. The experience happens Fridays and Saturdays through July 3 and involves various venues in Fair Park; it begins at the Grand Place. To get there, take the Green Line to Fair Park Station.

Saturday, July 2

Fantazm continues Teatro en Fuga’s festival of staged readings. Written by Hector Cantu, writer of the nationally syndicated comic strip Baldo, the play follows Polo, who comes back home from college and finds himself caught in a power struggle for his barrio. See the performance at the Latino Cultural Center, just a couple blocks from the Green Line’s Deep Ellum Station.

Turtle Creek Chorale - Photo Courtesy of FacebookSaturday, July 2-Sunday, July 3

Let Us March On! features the beloved Turtle Creek Chorale performing choral works from a wide range of composers and artists of color. In addition to the male chorus, actors and an orchestra round out the performance – which includes the world premiere of Dreamland: Tulsa, 1921, telling the story of the Tulsa Race Massacre. The performance happens at the Meyerson Symphony Center, walkable from Pearl/Arts District Station on all four DART Rail lines.

Sunday, July 3

Plano Community Band’s Patriotic Concert is just as billed – a rousing, musical celebration of America. The free concert takes place in Haggard Park, right next to the Red Line’s Downtown Plano Station.
